Ani Yosef

This song is one of my very favorites; it makes me cry every time I hear it. Eli Schwebel wrote this song, perfectly capturing the emotions of Yosef and the moment he revealed himself to his brothers, which we read about in this week’s Torah portion.

Enjoy, and Shabbat Shalom!

“Ani Yosef”
Hearts Mind
Eli Schwebel

I’ve shed my tears
through the darkest years
of a journey that’s still on my mind
This was my fate
my bones in the prison of time
Then fortune came
like a dream one day
and I finally learned how to smile
Am I still my sweet father child?

I’ve been alone
I’ve been afraid
I’ve been locked up and thrown away
Now I am free
I know who I am
אני יוסף העוד אבי חי

Now you’re down on your knees
and you’re beggin me
how can I believe a word you say what do you really mean
the anger the shame
my very own blood put me through
I begged for my life, but you didn’t care
there was no mercy from you
you are still my father’s sons too

I’ve been alone
I’ve been afraid
I’ve been locked up and thrown away
Now I am free
I know who I am
אני יוסף העוד אבי חי
